Kings Forest is an 850 ha master planned community located on the Tweed coast. The $5bn development will be the largest single investment in the region’s history and create thousands of jobs locally as well as much needed new housing. The Kings Forest project will likely proceed over many years and will include:
- Residential development for approximately 4500 dwellings
- Town centre and neighbourhood centre for future retail and commercial uses
- Community and education facilities
- Employment land
- 18 hole Golf Course
- Open space
- Wildlife corridors
- Protection and rehabilitation of environmentally sensitive land
- Utility services infrastructure
- Water management areas and lake
- Roads and pedestrian and bicycle paths
When completed, Kings Forest will be home to 11,000 residents.
JWA Pty Ltd have been the ecological consultants on the project since its inception in 1997. Our involvement with the project has included assisting our client to gain Concept Approval in 2010, Major Project Approval in 2013 and Commonwealth Approval under the EPBC Act in 2015. During the approval process JWA have completed numerous flora, fauna and vegetation surveys. We assisted the client in identifying approximately 96 ha of compensatory habitat/offsets for the koala, and approximately 47 ha of compensatory habitat/offsets for the wallum sedge frog. We have also prepared the following management plans to ensure compliance with consent conditions:
- Koala Plan of Management (and associated Koala Contingency and Offset Strategy)
- Wallum Sedge Frog Management Plan (and associated WSF Contingency and Offset Strategy)
- Vegetation Management Plans
- Buffer Management Plans
- Threatened Species Management Plans
- Weed Management Plans
- Feral Animal Management Plan
JWA has also completed baseline Koala activity surveys, baseline Wallum Sedge Frog surveys, baseline Threatened flora and fauna surveys and baseline vegetation surveys.
